ACTIVITIES

Needless to say, you won't be short of activities during your stay; the hardest part will be choosing when faced with the riches of the Dordogne Valley: castles, local markets, prehistory (caves, chasms), picturesque villages, gardens, hiking or cycling, barges, etc.

Our privileged location will allow you to easily reach the most remarkable sites of the Périgord Noir. Just a few minutes' drive (10-40 minutes), you can discover emblematic sites such as the medieval city of Sarlat-La-Canéda , the gardens of Eyrignac , the castle of Castelnaud-la-Chapelle .

Castles

From medieval fortresses like the Château de Beynac , perched high above the Dordogne River, to Renaissance gems such as Joséphine Baker’s Château des Milandes, you’ll be spoiled for choice if you're dreaming of a journey through time.

And don’t miss the Château de Paluel, visible from the house on its rocky promontory and reachable on foot. This 15th-century castle, burned down by the Nazis in June 1944, was used as the set for the famous 1968 film Le Tatoué.

Prehistory

To the north, the Vézère Valley is world-renowned for its extraordinary prehistoric heritage. There, you can explore fascinating prehistoric caves such as the Lascaux Caves, famous for their spectacular cave paintings, the prehistoric site of Les Eyzies-de-Tayac, or the remarkable troglodyte village of La Roque Saint-Christophe.

Picturesque villages & gardens

Wander through picturesque villages with timeless charm, all just a short stroll from the house. Several are proudly listed among Les Plus Beaux Villages de France, such as Domme, our favourite bastide, offering an incomparable view over the valley, or La Roque-Gageac, with its surprising tropical garden clinging to the cliffside.

Nestled in lush greenery, two nearby gardens are well worth a visit: the Gardens of the Eyrignac Manor, a fine example of formal French design, and the Gardens of Marqueyssac, known for their spectacular views over the valley.

Green leisure activities

Hikers and cyclists regularly cross paths with us in our garden, much to the delight of Sky, our young dog, who greets them with a hop, skip, and a jump. It should be noted that the GR6 runs alongside our house, and the Voie Verte passes nearby, making for beautiful, bucolic walks.

Fishing enthusiasts are not left out, the Brâme pond a few hundred meters away is renowned for its carp.

Terroir & Gastronomy

Foodies will be spoilt for choice with the abundance of unmissable local products: the black truffle nicknamed "The Black Diamond", Bergerac wines , strawberries , walnuts . Don't hesitate to explore the local markets, the one in Sarlat-la-Canéda is exceptional, we will share our favorites and good addresses with you.
